Frequently Asked Questions
What is a roll-up door?
Roll-up doors open vertically and coil into a compact roll above the opening. They provide convenient, easy access while also offering reliable security for your valuables. They are available in a wide range of sizes and colours and can be used for many applications.
How do you measure door size?
The door size ordered should be based on the size of your rough opening (floor to the underside of the header/inside to inside of the jambs). It is also important to measure the horizontal and vertical clearances to make sure they are sufficient.
How do I tension my door?
The door should be pre-tensioned by spinning the door drum 2-3 times after the brackets and rails are fastened to the structure. Afterward, the door tension can be fine-tuned using the tensioning gear at the end of the door axle. You can refer to our installation manual for step-by-step instructions.
How do I know if my door is tensioned properly?
Properly tensioned door springs are imperative for smooth operation and longevity. When you unlock the door latch, it should not spring open. A slight upward lift should be required to open the door, and it should stop and remain at roughly knee-to-waist height. You can periodically check the door operation for proper tension, but it should only need to be tensioned 2-3 times per year at most.
Are there standard door sizes?
There are no “standard” door sizes when it comes to roll-up doors. We often see the same door sizes in the self-storage application (e.g., 8’-8” x 7’-0” and 3’-8” x 7’-0”) for 10’-0”- wide and 5’-0”- wide storage units, respectively. That said, each door is made to order, and we can accommodate any door size between (3’-0” x 3’-0” and 10’-0” x 10’-0”).
What type of material can the doors be fastened to?
RollCor doors can be fastened to a wide range of materials (e.g., heavy-gauge steel, light-gauge steel, wood, concrete). During the ordering process, make sure to let your sales rep know what type of material your door will be installed in. We will provide the appropriate fasteners for your project to ensure a seamless installation.
